We have covered three important reading strategies in this class so far: Main Idea, Facts and Details, and Sequencing. Because it is hoped that you will use these strategies in your classes, we will practice using the strategy for your history classes. We are making the connection between reading strategies and your classes, so that you can become more successful by using them.
I have talked with your American History teachers about the chapters you are focused on. This project will be based around are chapters you are either currently working on or you will be learning in the next week or so.
Here are the instructions for this project. First, you will identify the main idea and the facts and details. Follow these instructions as you work through the process. 1. Download the proper PDF for your reading.
This is the PDF for students who have Ms. Ramaekers.
2. Read the history information. While reading annotate the text by putting a box around the main idea of EACH paragraph. Put a different colored box around the facts and details.
3. Download the web organizer of main idea and facts and details. Ramaekers
4. Write the main idea of each sub section in your own words.
5. Write the main idea of the entire chapter section in the middle of the web.
6. Add facts and details that are important to the chapter information.
Now that you have completed the strategies for identifying main idea and facts and details, you can practice the strategy of sequencing to show you can successfully apply the reading strategies from the Achievement Center to you other class work.
As you have probably noticed, many of the ideas of history happen in a specific order. This cause/effect relationship between events make it important to know what happens first, second, third, and so on.
A great graphic organizer to record sequence is a timeline.
7. Use ComicLife to make a timeline of events. 1. Open ComicLife 2. Choose "Built-in: 00's Comic" 3. Choose template "Y" 4. Write the events in order in the small boxes. Number the boxes. 5. Put a picture in the big boxes that represent the events.
8. Record the event of your chapter section on this timeline.
